Haji Ali Dargah – A Serene Place with Religious Significance

We reached the hotel late in the evening, and so we postponed our plan to visit the very famous Haji Ali Dargah Mumbai the next day. We had our dinner at the hotel restaurant, and relaxed in our room. The trip was proving to be a delight to both of us, and we were cherishing the visits to these sites, which are often missed against the numerous beaches of Mumbai. Next day, as planned, we got up early, had an early breakfast, packed some eateries for the way and left for the next destination- Haji Ali Dargah

The historical landmark of Haji Ali Dargah, is amongst the most esteemed Islamic symbols that is located in South Mumbai.

The Haji Ali was constructed by a affluent Muslim merchant- Haji Ali Shah Bukhari, who donated his wealth and became a saint. He abandoned all the worldly pleasures and went on board to a pilgrimage to Mecca, to devote his life to almighty. This Dargah was then established as a tribute in the year1431 AD.

We reached the astonishing mosque that is built in the middle of the sea, and moved forward on a constricted path that leads to the mosque. The whitewashed building spreads to an area of around 500yards and is edged by marble pillars that add to the marvelous architecture. However, this 400-year-old structure present in Mumbai had got corroded and degenerated at many places reflecting the hurdles that it has faced over the period, and now, renovation and up gradation of this holy place is being considered.

People visit here to get the blessings of Pir Haji Ali Shah Bukhari for health, wealth, marriage etc. The tomb is flooded on special occasions when some events are organized at the Dargah.

On entering the Dargah, we came across two main monuments -tomb of Pir Haji Ali Shah Bukhari and a mosque. The architecture of this monument has reflections of  Mughal and Indo-Islamic designs.
