Very close to the Chandaka- Dampara Wildlife Sanctuary is the Nandankanan Zoological Park, Bhubaneswar Odisha. This morning I was scheduled to visit the park and enjoy the vast bounty of nature. Along the Kanjia Lake, the premise covers the land of the Jujhagarh Demarcated Protected Forests (DPF). This was exciting- to visit the natural belt of Odisha was truly a sightseeing to remember. One could also get down at the Baranga Railway Station from a train bound to Chennai to Howrah to visit the park. It is most close to the park and extremely convenient. My association with mythology tells me that the name Nandankanan is referred as Garden of God. It etymologically means a natural haven where the Gods exist. The real truth is not far from it. The moment I got past the main gate, the serenity of the place engulfed me.
It is not only about the beauty. Nandankanan is famous for very many things. Animals are treated with the best here in both open moat enclosures and bound cages according to the suitability of the habitat they should be in. The quantity and the variety of animals that can be found here is testimony to the fact that the breeding and care of animals here is by far the best. The unique aspect of zoo is that it the lone zoo in the country which has the prestige to be home to the Patas Monkeys. Apart from this, it is the second zoo in the nation to have Orang-Utans. I moved around taking in all the uniqueness of the place. I had booked myself on the White Tiger Safari to see the animal up close; it is a remarkable event of this zoo that the white tiger had been born to colored tigers.
As a renowned member of the World Association of Zoos & Aquariums, Nandankanan Zoological Park, Bhubaneswar Odisha is a great place to visit for people who have special interest in the successful breeding of animals. The day passed away and I did not even realize and it was now time to go to the Crown, Bhubaneswar to indulge in their hospitality for the night.
