Indira : The Life of Indira Nehru Gandhi a wonderful Book

Since, my childhood I had this strange fascination with books. Reading is one of my favourite things to do. Even as a kid I was so addicted to reading that I would take them with me in school and read them in between lectures. I still make it a point to have couple of books/novels in my backpack.

Recently, I borrowed this book from a friend of mine Katherine Frank's “Indira : The Life of Indira Nehru Gandhi”. It is a beautiful biography of Indira Nehru Gandhi. The book covers each aspect of her life. There are numerous misconceptions about Indira, which are cleared in this biography. It gave me a better idea about who Indira Gandhi was as a person, daughter, mother, friend, wife, and social figure.

She was born in one of the most influential families in India. The books has a section where her father Honourable Jawaharlal Nehru told that she was born during the rise of Russian Revolution. Hence, her role in Indian politics was notable since she came from a bloodline of leaders.

Her father and family was always in the limelight. As a kid, she grew up in difficult environment and saw people struggle. Such an ambience was greatly responsible for fuelling patriotism and gaining interest in Indian politics. The book helps you visualize, various situation in young Indra’s life and people or friends who inspired her.

This book perfectly depicts her journey from Anand Bhavan in Allahabad to the Prime Minister's residence at 1 Safdarjung Road, New Delhi. There were various phases and stories in young Indra’s life related to her teenage, academics, married, as well as social life. All these this that I was unaware was well portrayed in the book by the author Katherine Frank.

This Book “Indira : The Life of Indira Nehru Gandhi” characterize the different aspects on Indira Gandhi's personality. The pressure that she faced from the society and how she found it hard to make, people understand her thoughts and feelings. The book offers an insight on some of the most painful as well as joyful moments in the life of Indira Priyadarshini Nehru Gandhi.
