Being an exporter in the garment field, I am bound to travel to various places for research and also to close various deals. My travels have given me immense experience and a hobby to visit scenic places. I also love visiting forts & knowing its glorious histories and exploring historical places around India. The culture/history lover in me is always in the quest to know more about different places and visiting ancient cities. I always had a longing thirst to visit Kolkata for its culture and history. I had a business meet in Kolkata and I decided to spend more days in this ancient city.
I always prefer luxurious travel and hence booked my tickets in one of the first class flights. I reached Kolkata and booked my room in one of the luxurious star hotels. I had a sumptuous dinner at the hotel restaurant and had a sound sleep. Next morning, after my routine walking, meditation and relaxation, I took some time to prepare official statements for my business schedule. My business meet went on well and I had some leisure time to spend for the day. Since, the time was less I decided to visit National library in Kolkata. I have heard about this ancient library but never got a chance to visit.
I reached this place by hiring a local transport and wandered in the streets to find the library. With my broken Bengali, I found this huge library and it is supposedly the largest library in India. This historical library was initiated in the year 1836 as a non-governmental institution. It has a collection of 2 million books over the years. They also have old documents which are very rare and precious. I also found many books in regional languages right from Hindi, Urdu, Gujarati and Tamil. There are wonderful collections of books right from literature to technology. I also got an opportunity to get a glimpse of rare documentaries and precious letter written by famous personalities and freedom fighters. After a complete browsing throughout the library, I walked out of the place with a promise to visit it again!
